AI Agents and Social Advertising: What Meta, TikTok and LinkedIn Have Launched

Social media ad platforms now offer AI agents in three forms: assistants built into their own ads managers, connectors that let an outside agent such as ChatGPT or Claude work inside an ad account through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), and agents that talk to consumers on a brand's behalf. Meta and TikTok have both launched assistants and connectors during 2026, and TikTok and Snap have added consumer-facing agents. LinkedIn's announcements have concentrated on AI campaign building and creative drafting inside its own Campaign Manager.

TL;DR: Meta has an AI business assistant, MCP connectors and agentic campaign features in testing; TikTok has Symphony Agent, an Agentic Hub of AI Skills and a lead generation agent; LinkedIn has Accelerate campaigns, an AI assistant in testing and AI drafting tools. Snap, Pinterest and Reddit have added an assistant, a connector or both, and each entry below is dated and sourced.

What kinds of AI agent do social ad platforms offer?

An in-platform assistant lives inside the platform's own ads manager and works on the account it sits in. A connector, usually an MCP server, lets an advertiser's own AI tool read and sometimes change campaigns from outside, while a consumer-facing agent talks to people in the app for the brand.

The distinction matters for accountability: an in-platform assistant works to the platform's rules, while a connector lets the advertiser decide which tool acts and with what permissions.

The same split between testing an agent and letting it spend appears outside social media. Alkimi, an enterprise platform for agentic advertising, separates its Gym, where buyers and sellers build their own agents and spar against counterparty agents before any real money moves, from its Marketplace, where humans keep approval rights at the deal level.

  • 7 October 2026: agentic features in testing. At Advertising Week New York, Meta said it was testing conversational commands that let advertisers plan and create a campaign, generate creative, update targeting or change a budget, plus scheduled tasks such as weekly summaries, according to MediaPost.

  • 13 May 2026: TikTok World. TikTok introduced Creator AI Search in TikTok One, which interprets a campaign brief to suggest creators, and Auto Selection in Smart+, its AI-automated performance solution. Adweek reported from the event that TikTok would begin welcoming third-party AI agents for campaign development and management through an MCP server.

  • 22 June 2026: Symphony Agent. • 5 October 2026: Advertising Week New York. TikTok made its MCP available as a connector in Claude, Perplexity, Snowflake and other AI platforms and in the IAB Tech Lab Agent Registry, and introduced Agentic Leads, an AI agent that qualifies prospects in direct messages and lead forms. It also announced Smart+ Creative Selection, an approval workflow for creative that, in TikTok's words, "gives advertisers full control of what goes live".

What AI tools has LinkedIn launched for advertisers?

  • 1 October 2024: Accelerate in public beta. LinkedIn made Accelerate available to all advertisers globally. From a URL, it builds a campaign covering targeting, creative, bidding and placement "for your team to review and adjust".

  • AI marketing assistant, in testing. LinkedIn's help centre describes an AI assistant in Campaign Manager that answers questions and gives section-by-section tips while an advertiser builds an Accelerate ad set. It is in testing, in English only.

  • 1 July 2026: creative tools. LinkedIn introduced brand kit, draft with AI, AI ad variants and flexible ad creation, which builds up to 64 creative combinations at once, according to its product updates page. LinkedIn put the intent plainly: "This isn't about automating your creative strategy. It's about removing the manual work that slows you down."

None of the LinkedIn pages reviewed here announced an MCP connector for outside agents.

  • 3 August 2026: Snap Ads MCP Server. Snap launched an official, Snap-hosted connection for Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini, where organisation admins authorise each agent separately and write access is still to come. Snap states that "An AI agent cannot access information or perform actions beyond what the individual user is permitted to do."

  • 17 June 2026: Pinterest Business Assistant and Pinterest MCP. Pinterest announced Business Assistant, an AI collaborator in Ads Manager and mobile in closed beta in the US. Pinterest MCP connects Pinterest to advertisers' agentic tools, with agencies including PMG, Dentsu and Havas among its alpha partners.

  • 3 September 2026: Reddit Max campaigns for all advertisers. MediaPost reported that Max campaigns automate targeting, creative, placements and budget allocation, and that Reddit's advertising API now lets third-party tools create and manage them. Max is presented as AI-powered automation rather than an agent, a reminder that not every launch here uses the word.

What do the social platform launches have in common?

Each large platform now pairs its own assistant with a route for outside agents, and that route often starts narrow: Snap's MCP server is read-only for now. Approval also stays with a person at the points that matter. Accelerate builds a campaign for review, Smart+ Creative Selection runs creative through an approval workflow, and Snap's admins grant access one agent at a time.

These agents operate one platform's ad account rather than negotiating with a counterparty, which is where standards come in. IAB Tech Lab's Agentic Advertising Management Protocols (AAMP) are the industry body's standards for agentic advertising, and TikTok says its connector is now in the IAB Tech Lab Agent Registry. The Ad Context Protocol (AdCP), published by AgenticAdvertising.org, added social campaigns in version 3.2, letting a buyer give a social platform one budget while setting a cost cap, cost target or return on ad spend goal, according to AgenticAdvertising.org.

How can a buyer judge how much autonomy a social platform agent has?

One way is to place each feature on the earned autonomy ladder: Observe, Recommend, Draft, Human-approved action and Bounded automatic action. Read on that scale, Snap's read-only MCP server sits at Observe, Meta's business assistant recommendations at Recommend, and LinkedIn's draft with AI at Draft.

TikTok's Smart+ Creative Selection is a Human-approved action, because the advertiser approves what goes live. Reddit Max campaigns, which allocate budget automatically, sit nearer Bounded automatic action, where the system acts inside settings the advertiser chooses.

The questions for any platform follow from the ladder: can the agent write or only read, who granted it access, and where is the record of what it changed? Those answers say more than a product name, as the seven tests for any ad platform's agent claims set out.

How do social platform agents differ from agents that negotiate deals?

A social platform agent works inside one company's account, so that company holds the log of what changed, whereas agents that agree deals between a buyer and a seller need a record both sides can check. Alkimi's Marketplace works within IAB Tech Lab's AAMP framework today, is being built to be AdCP compatible, and writes each agreement into a DealSheet that is timestamped, held by both parties and retrievable by either side independently.

It has also filed comments and change requests on OpenProposal (AAMP 3.0), whose public comment period IAB Tech Lab has extended to 10 November 2026 (GitHub).

Meta, TikTok, Snap and Pinterest have each announced an MCP route, and Snap ties each agent's access to the permissions of the user who connects it.

Can a social platform agent spend money without approval?
