The State of Agentic Advertising, October 2026: What Shipped This Month

October 2026 was the month agentic advertising standards met their first hard deadline and agent-to-agent buying moved from one-off demos to repeat campaigns. IAB Tech Lab's public comment period for OpenProposal, the core object in AAMP 3.0, closed on 22 October, while AgenticAdvertising.org shipped the first stable AdCP 3.2 release and four patch versions. On the commercial side, TV networks, device makers, agencies and publishers announced live agent-led campaigns, and most of the deal announcements named a human approval step.

TL;DR: The standards story was the OpenProposal comment close and the AdCP 3.2 release train, with AdCP 3.3 already in beta. The deal story was concentrated in TV, where Fox, LG with Magnite, and NBCUniversal with Carat each announced agent-led buying. The research story was a Basis survey of 184 marketing professionals finding that 51.1% of marketing organisations now use AI agents, while only 6.5% evaluate their AI investments against defined benchmarks.

This roundup covers developments dated 1 to 31 October 2026, each checked against the company's own announcement or trade press, and is refreshed monthly. Items run in date order, not order of importance.

What changed in agentic advertising standards in October 2026?

22 October: the OpenProposal comment period closed. According to the OpenProposal repository maintained by IAB Tech Lab, the draft was open for public comment from 22 September to 22 October, and anyone with a GitHub account could file, member or not. OpenProposal is the core object of AAMP 3.0 within AAMP, IAB Tech Lab's Agentic Advertising Management Protocols: the machine-readable description of what is being bought and sold, carried from first brief to binding commercial terms (a plain-English explainer).

A count of the OpenProposal issue tracker on the morning of 22 October showed 60 issues from 17 distinct GitHub accounts, 48 of them opened in October. The working group had flagged seven open questions it was still undecided on, including whether seller catalogues belong in 3.0 and the fact that the format registry had no audio, CTV or DOOH entries.

What does a filing look like in practice? Alkimi, an enterprise platform for agentic advertising, took part in the comment period and filed comments and change requests on the public tracker, the same route open to any agency, publisher or vendor. Because filings are public, buyers can read exactly which objections and proposed wording were raised, and by whom.

1 to 16 October: the first stable AdCP 3.2 release shipped and was patched four times. The AdCP documentation records 3.2 as generally available from 30 September, and the first stable artifact, 3.2.1, was tagged on GitHub on 1 October. Patch releases 3.2.2, 3.2.3, 3.2.4 and 3.2.5 followed on 4, 7, 12 and 16 October, alongside maintenance releases for the 3.1 line.

According to AgenticAdvertising.org's guide for marketers, published 15 October, 3.2 lets agents run social and other self-optimising platforms against cost controls the buyer sets, and builds reporting obligations into the buyer and seller agreement so a missing report shows as missing rather than as zero. It also declares AI-generated content and records who did the measuring. Reliable reporting, clean-room activation and rights attestations are labelled experimental, so their details can still change with at least six weeks' notice.

1 October: AgenticAdvertising.org introduced its founding Board. The organisation's Town Hall write-up says 3.2 drew on more than 50 contributors, 158 RFCs and more than 1,000 merged changes, and that 3.3 is already in working groups. The same Town Hall introduced a founding Board of Directors, a Brand Council of marketing leaders who will guide and test the protocol, and a Marketing Collab where members run real-budget experiments on AdCP.

8 October: a regulator joined the conversation. The UK Information Commissioner's Office opened a call for evidence on agentic AI to inform how it applies data protection law to agents. Its questions cover data security, transparency, accountability, automated decision-making, fairness and the lawfulness of processing.

Which agentic advertising platforms launched in October 2026?

Most October launches were orchestration layers or seller agents that sit on top of existing buying systems rather than replacing them. That matters for buyers, because agentic tools are arriving inside workflows their teams already run.

7 October: Olyzon. Olyzon announced the full launch of its agentic orchestration platform at Advertising Week New York, starting with CTV and extending across YouTube, social, digital audio and DOOH. "The agent does the orchestration. The human keeps the decision," said co-founder and CEO Jules Minvielle.

8 October: Meta and Tinuiti. Adweek reported that Meta said it is testing an AI assistant that can plan and create campaigns, change targeting and budgets, and remember past campaigns. The same week, Digiday reported that independent agency Tinuiti launched a Bliss Point MCP server, opening its measurement layer directly to AI agents.

20 October: Adzymic and Stagwell. Adzymic launched AgenX Sales Agent, built on the Prebid Sales Agent foundation, operating on AdCP and supporting MCP and A2A, with Singapore media owners including Mediacorp and SPH Media making inventory available to AI buyers. The same day, Stagwell launched Stagwell AI, bringing its agentic marketing products under one brand, including a self-service offering for small and medium-sized businesses.

21 October: Perion and TikTok. Perion announced that its Outmax agent is available as a third-party Skill in TikTok's Agentic Hub. Perion says every optimisation cycle requires explicit advertiser approval before any change executes, and every action is logged with a reason code.

Which agent-to-agent deals and partnerships were announced in October 2026?

6 October: Carat, FreeWheel, NBCUniversal and Newton. The four companies launched a programmatic agentic media solution built to optimise upfront investment across NBCUniversal buys. It debuts with a Carat client in luxury retail, the first advertiser to deploy an agent built for its own needs as part of an upfront.

7 October: pubX, Reckitt and three publishers. pubX ran a live agent-to-agent buy for Reckitt's Mucinex brand at an Advertising Week executive lunch. Reckitt's trading team approved the plan, then Paradium.AI, USA TODAY Co. and The Daily Beast approved it in their own dashboards and pushed the line items into their ad servers.

14 October: Magnite, LG Ad Solutions and H/L. AdExchanger reported that LG smart TV home screen inventory is now available to agencies through agentic buying, with Northern California Toyota Dealers Association as the first campaign. H/L's buyer agent worked with Magnite's seller agent inside ClearLine via MCP, and the agent-led plan was approved by LG and H/L before going live.

15 and 16 October: Fox AdStudio and Simulmedia. MediaPost reported that Fox Advertising is extending agent-to-agent deal-making to live, linear TV, with agency partners including WPP, Omnicom, Horizon Media, Stagwell and Simulmedia. A day later, Simulmedia said 10 live campaigns are on air this quarter across five FOX properties, with more than 300 spot-level orders executed through its VAMOS system over A2A, including counter-offers when requested inventory is unavailable.

Read together, the October deals sit mostly at the "human-approved action" stage of earned autonomy, the five-step ladder that runs from Observe to Recommend, Draft, Human-approved action and Bounded automatic action. Lauren Wetzel, global president of data and tech solutions at WPP Media, put the position plainly to Digiday: "Our whole approach is that governance and human accountability are central to agentic media buying."

What did October 2026 research say about agentic advertising?

19 October: Basis, AI and the Future of Marketing 2026. Basis surveyed 184 marketing and advertising professionals and found that 51.1% of marketing organisations now use AI agents, for tasks including reporting and analytics (72.3%), drafting campaign briefs (56.4%) and planning media (35.1%). Daily AI use reached 61.4%, up from 33.6% a year earlier. Just 6.5% of organisations evaluate their AI investments against defined benchmarks.

That last figure is the one to hold onto. Agents are being deployed far faster than anyone is measuring them, which makes benchmarking and verification, not capability, the open question for 2027 budgets.

19 October: how planners describe the agents. Writing up the same study, MediaPost quoted Kayla Coe, director of digital media and strategy at Ad+genuity: "It's almost like having an assistant planner." Coe added that nothing goes to a client unless it is her team's own human recommendation.

What to watch in November 2026

3 November: IAB Tech Lab Agentic Bootcamp, UK Edition 2. The members-only session at IAB UK in London will cover AAMP updates, with live demos of the buyer and seller agent SDKs and the Agent Registry.

5 November: IAB Tech Lab International Summit. "Welcome to the Agentic Web" runs as a full-day event at Convene, 22 Bishopsgate, London, covering CTV, privacy, real-time bidding and identity.

OpenProposal adjudication. Under the repository's comment process, every comment in the formal record will receive a written disposition, and issues filed after 22 October are labelled post-comment for the following draft. The adjudication and publication dates are still listed as to be confirmed, so no November date has been announced.

AdCP 3.3 beta. The 3.3 migration notes describe 3.3 as in its beta cycle and advise keeping production traffic on 3.2 while testing.

20 November: the ICO call for evidence closes. Responses to the ICO's agentic AI call for evidence are accepted until the end of 20 November.

This roundup is compiled by Alkimi, whose Marketplace works within IAB Tech Lab's AAMP framework today and is being built to be AdCP compatible, which is why both release trains are tracked here each month.
